Did you ever thought that your clothes especially the undergarments can help you get social as well?

Well, we didn’t either but now there’s one marketing campaign who did think about making undergarments that can go social.

A special high-tech bra designed by OgilvyOne Athens that tweets each time when it is unclasped. This amazing bra is created as a part of a new campaign for Nestle Fitness, according to AdRants. As bizarre as the idea may sound, it is technically for a good cause: to promote breast cancer awareness and the need for self-examinations.

The campaign centers around Greek actress Maria Bakodimou and will last for two weeks. A dedicated website for the campaign includes tips for performing self-examinations and, of course, a Twitter account for the social bra.

Though you may be surprised to know that this is not happening for the first time that a piece of clothing is connect to twitter. Some years ago, artist Imogen Heap wore a specially crafted dress at the Grammys, which displayed Twitter pictures from fans. Microsoft created something similar the following year.

Cancer has become the most common disease in the world today. There is an alarming number of increase in cancer patients all over the world. Cancer in the breast is common among women though there are numbers of male patients too who are affected with this deadly disease. Yeah! you read that right. Males also suffer from Breast Cancer. But if taken care at an early stage, breast cancer can be cured and patient can be revived. But, due to lack of knowledge, many patients especially women don’t survive in breast cancer cases.

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer develops from breast cells. It usually starts off in the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk. Ever 1 in 8 women gets cancer in their lifetime, apart from skin cancer. There is no exact reason why breast cancers occur in women. Research shows that many women don’t show the preliminary signs of cancer which is the main reasons behind less survival rate of breast cancer patients.

Causes of Breast Cancer:

Research has been going on to find out what are the exact reasons behind the occurrence of breast cancer. Women above 50 are more prone to get breast cancer. But, this doesn’t mean that younger women are safe.

  • History of Breast Cancer: If your family has a history of cancer, you are more prone in getting breast cancer. Though this statement is not proven yet as 70 to 80% of women detected with breast cancer do not have a family history of having breast cancer.
  • Alcohol Consumption: Women who have heavy alcohol consumption increase the risk of getting breast cancer every day. Even one drink a day makes you more close to this dreadful disease.
  • Genetics: Hereditary breast cancer happens when a mutated gene has been passed down from a parent.
  • Lumps: Women who have breast lumps are more likely to develop cancer at later stage. Though all lumps are not cancerous. It can be only diagnosed by through check up by a doctor.
  • Obesity: Overweight or post-menopausal obese in women have higher risk of developing breast cancer. Higher levels of estrogen in women who have menopause tend to have greater risk of having breast cancer.
  • Cosmetic implants: Women who had any kind cosmetic breast implants or any kind of breast surgery may have a higher risk getting breast cancer compared to other females.

Preventive Measures for Breast Cancer:

Why breast Cancer are more seen in women is complex to explain, but definite factors — lifestyle, hormonal changes and genetics plays an important role in breast cancer development among females. Every woman can take some steps towards betterment of her health to limit the risk of getting breast cancer at any age.

  • Exercise: Regular 30 to 45 minutes of exercise at least five days a week can lower down the risk of breast cancer formation in your body. You can do jogging, cardio exercise or strength building exercise daily to make you stronger from inside.
  • Maintain Weight: You should always maintain a healthy weight of your body. Being obsess or getting too thin breaks immunity power of your body thus putting you more risk of getting cancer.
  • Healthy Diet: Body needs set amount of nutrients on daily basis to fight diseases like breast cancer. A good diet consisting of fresh vegetables, fruits, protein rich diet and fibers diet are required for your body. Remember, eating healthy is the most important step to fight disease like cancer.
  • Breast Feeding: Breastfeeding for at least 12 months to your child may actually decrease the risk of premenopausal breast cancer.

October is known for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United States and is celebrate in many countries worldwide including India. Three members of my family suffered from cancer and my grandmother had breast cancer. It was quiet difficult for all of us to recover from this traumatic disease as Cancer doesn’t only affect its patient but their whole family mentally. When people are diagnosed with cancer, they feel like they have lost all the control on their health and life. As the treatment begins, it slowly breaks the person emotionally and invulnerability. In my previous article on Breast Cancer Awareness, I tried to spread the word about breast cancer and explained why you shouldn’t be ashamed of it or ignore it.

Today, our life is surrounded by various chemical based stuff, whether in the form of edible food or cosmetics we use. There can be many different reasons that can cause cancer and only a proper treatment can help your body to recover from this deadly disease. But you can fight it and prevent yourself getting any kind of Cancer. There are some nutritious foods that can help prevent any kind of cancer formation in your body.

Educating yourself on breast-cancer and including the following cancer fighting foods in your daily diet is the first step against fighting breast cancer.

  • Green Tea:

Green Tea are the best antioxidants for our body as they are enriched with an antioxidant called catechin. Regular intake of green tea helps this antioxidant find  free radicals in your body that are harmful to DNA and cause cancer and also helps get rid of them. Catechin also  reduces the growth of new blood vessels that are essential for tumors to cultivate.

  • Omega-3-Rich Foods:

Foods such as walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, and fatty fish are rich with Omega-3 fatty acids and are quite nutritious for keeping your breasts healthy and cancer-free. They also help in reducing inflammation, which is one of the sources of cancer cell growth and damaging healthy tissues.

Garlic is a member of the lily family and is closely related to shallots, onions, leeks, and chives. Garlic is quiet effective to protect the body from carcinogens cells and interrupts the breakdown of tumor cells. Eating small amount of garlic in your daily diet will boost your metabolism and fight against carcinogens cells.

  • Whole Grains:

Brown rice, oats, Wheat, and millet are some of the best options in whole grain foods. They are great diet supplements for fighting cancer because they are great source of fiber. Low fibrous diet may actually put you in risk of having cancer.

Any cancer analysis or detection is disturbing for the patient and their loved ones. If we adapt correct diet habits and healthy lifestyle on daily basis, we can avoid any kind of cancer cell growth in our body.

October – November are the festive months in India. Most of us get busy in the celebration with our family but very few of us know about one celebration held in October which is celebrated all over the world – “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. Most of the Indian women’s health is ignored either due to gender discrimination in our society, low health awareness or shyness of going for a body checkup. According to the recent health reports, there is a huge increase in number of women who are detected by Breast Cancer.

Taking care of your breasts is considered to be a taboo in our society. But, we forget that like any other part, breasts are also part of our human body. With the wrong lifestyle, excessive use of cosmetic products, women today are more prone to have breast cancer, even at younger age. It’s time now to shed this shame and take care of your breasts to live healthier and longer.

The risk of getting breast cancer is higher among older women. If women have a family history or a preceding history of breast cancer, women who had gone through a radiation therapy on chest area, women who got their periods before 12 years old, women who got menopause after 50, women who got children in their thirties and women with genetic mutation or moms who don’t breastfeed their newborn baby or don’t excrete the milk out on a regular basis then they are at higher risks of having breast cancer than other women.

One of the most common symptoms of breast cancer is a sudden appearance of lump or thickening on one of the breast or underarm area.

Another symptom of breast cancer is the pain felt in one of the breasts or maybe on both. This pain can also be felt in the armpit area. Though this pain is commonly experienced by women during their menstrual cycle. But if you are experiencing this pain before or after your menstrual cycle, go to your doctor and get it checked.

Another symptom could be if your breast or nipple has sudden changes in its shape and size. Swelling in the breast may be common among some women during the menstrual cycle but not in other days. Consult your physician if you notice any sudden changes in your chest area. Symptoms of a breast cancer may comprise fluid discharges -clear or cloudy leaking through your nipple. Another symptom could be a sudden variation in colors of areola or nipple. Even there can be rashes or redness around your breasts in case of breast cancer.

“Health is Wealth” Remember that the saying refers to your overall body, so just don’t ignore your breast just because it’s considered to be shame.  Be a keen observant for your own body and consult right away to a physician if you find any of the following changes in your chest area. Breast Cancer can be cured if detected at an early stage and the patient can make 100% recovery from it.
